“I give you permission” means that we no longer, as women, need to continuously worry about, question, regret, feel shame or compete over our decisions. If you are sick and tired of saying “‘I’m sorry” for everything you do, and want a new path to happiness, and as I see it, inevitably wealth, then read on. I share for you all the situations I find myself in when I intuitively follow the thread of happiness, without concern about anyone else’s opinion of me, time away from work, or a value proposition of my action. The ROI of my life is built on how happy I want to be, and I see that for you too.

So why create a newsletter about permission? Heck, I can’t do this wild new life alone. I need to know that I am preaching to the tired choir who is ready for a new song. I want to engage you to hear about where you have given new permission to yourself in your life to join that church, take that holiday solo, change your career path, speak about what scares you. We can also get psychological about why is having permission so novel for women? I sometimes will get data and research driven so we can understand where we come from and how we felt compelled to stay small. This is a place to share as a community the desires we have to let loose and stop living under the rules imposed on us for decades by our family of origin, employers, religions, friends and even the view of God itself as a construct.

I will share trips I take, conversations I have, money I make, out of the box experiences I engage in like jumping out of a plane (look how happy I am!) and traveling to another state with only a map. I also struggle, as do you, with desires I have that may paint me as someone who is heartless (I no longer want to take care of my kid’s cat) or a quitter (I am considering being a landlord is not my cup of tea.)

I hope you find the time and courage to chime in!

I will also offer sneak peeks on my new book I Give You Permission to be Happy and Wealthy Women, as well as writing prompts, links to interesting topics and adventures, and an overall curated experience that can bring you to more permission in your life.

About me

I am a sexual abuse survivor and author of the self-help book No Longer Denying Sexual Abuse: Making The Choices That Can Change Your Life as well as the host of the free series No Longer Abused. My writings have appeared in LA Times L.A. Affairs and literary journals such as Umbrella Factory Magazine. I am currently finishing the manuscript for my second book, “I Give You Permission to be Happy & Wealthy Women,” which prompted this column.

In a previous life, I was a movie producer and screenwriter in Hollywood. When I am not writing, I help motivated and talented first time authors achieve their dreams of writing best-selling books. I work with them in the tender spaces of birthing their book baby, and seeing the vision through many drafts to publishing. I hold workshops and Zooms on publishing with industry experts.

What readers say about my book -

“Kim O'Hara's story of sexual abuse is both brutally honest and devastatingly relatable. She manages to strike the balance between telling a story that is deeply personal, yet also universal in its message: YOU CAN SURVIVE AND THRIVE NOW NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST.”

“I avoided picking this book up for months. I am familiar with the author, Kim O'Hara, and know her to be a fantastic storyteller and vibrant writer, but I generated a false belief that this book was not for me just based on the title. I am not a victim of sexual abuse, so how could this book be relevant to me?
It took me finally opening up the book and reading it from page one to realize that this was a story about so much more.”

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse, please consider my book for healing or and my free 21 session course.
